I hope you are all doing well, I thought I would share with you a few things that might be helpful if you are coming to Scotland, obviously Covid has changed the whole world and how things are after the pandemic, if you are planning a vacation or holiday to Scotland either independently or with an Independent Private Tour Operator like myself.
Before you come to Scotland please make sure you have accommodation booked, some people are leaving it to the last minute and sadly if you do that you will probably be very limited in where you can stay and also could be charged even more than normal for a hotel room.
Car Hire or Rental
The problem at the moment with car rental in Scotland, and as far as I can make out the whole world, is a shortage of vehicles. If I could suggest to book well in advance and expect to pay a lot more at the moment due to the demand, especially if you would prefer an automatic to a manual, as I write this on the 2nd of July petrol is around £1.93 per litre and if you choose a diesel car the cost for diesel is around £2.00 per litre.
If you are visiting Scotland and are travelling from a far away country like the USA or further than that, I would recommend not renting a car the day you arrive, the reason for this is most transatlantic flights are overnight and you can be tired with jet lag, also getting in a vehicle on the Right hand side and driving on the left can be a bit overwhelming.
I would not recommend driving in the cities as parking can be hard to find and expensive.
Whilst in Scotland you may like to visit a Whisky Distillery, we always recommend booking in advance as a lot of the tours sell out quick.
You will find a lot of tourist attractions open until the end of October, some are closed for different reasons just check before you come to Scotland so you can plan your route accordingly.
Scotland has some of the best Seafood Restaurants in the World and also has wonderful other cuisine, if you are looking to eat at a specific Restaurant that has been recommended by maybe a friend, or you have read about, we would advise you to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
